Imagism

Conventions

Imagist poems are a genre of poetry inspired by the impressionist movement.
They are brief and direct snapshots of a moment in time, only a couple sentences
long with literal titles. There is no decorative language or larger hidden meaning,
however they can still be musical in their phrasing.

Spider in the Bath

Ready for a shower—oh no!
My place is preoccupied
By a wriggling pebble.

Fear.
Fight or flight.
Size on my side
With man made rain.
I win.

Wasp in the House

Pause!
A slender syringe
has flown through my window
Uninvited.

It now owns the house.

I join my furniture,
Hammered in a corner,
As I wait for it to leave.
